Faith Fest drew over 2,500 people to the LA Arts District on a September evening in 2025. I was there for all three hours, painting live as the crowd moved around me.

The piece is 8 by 8 feet. The text reads “The unfolding of your word” a reference to Psalm 119:130. Calligraffiti lettering in gold as the primary, white as the highlights. Three brushes: a 4-inch for the main letterforms, a 2-inch for the smaller lettering, a 1-inch for the white detail work. Artist Chris Musella (@furtherrealm) collaborated on the piece, painting the open Bible at the center of the composition.

The LA Arts District is a place I have a real connection to. The murals throughout that neighborhood represent what public art can do – pull people in, make them stop, make them look closer. That’s what calligraffiti does in a live setting. The style isn’t common. The message isn’t immediately readable. People would stop mid-crowd, lean in, try to make out the letters. That’s the moment. That’s what a live painter should create.

This event was personal beyond the work. Faith Fest was built around fellowship, giving believers a place to connect, worship, and find community. Painting there meant being part of that environment, not just providing a backdrop for it. People came up to talk while I worked. About the piece, about faith, about what the words meant. Those conversations are part of why I paint.
I donated my time for this one. It wasn’t a commercial engagement. I’m including it because the work is worth documenting and because the context matters, faith-based events, community gatherings, and cultural festivals are spaces where live art belongs, and where I want to work.
